Rigging Service

Gilles Combrisson has nearly finished the rigging work. The only thing remaining for this phase of work is to run the main sail reefing lines and to tune the rig. We may service a few winches over the next few months, too.

Gilles on a neighboring vessel.

Work accomplished includes:

New forestay and backstay

New furling drum

New rod rigging, tip cups, and turnbuckles for mast shrouds

New main halyard winch

New made base blocks installed

New masthead fly, anemometer, vHF antenna, and tricolor as well as steaming light

Lazy jack system

New spartite mast seal

Boom mechanics simplification

All sorts of new shackles

Renovation and repaint of radar dome pole

Removal of two old stern exhaust pipes followed by fiberglass and gelcoat repair

Fiberglass and gelcoat repair of several holes in cockpit after removal of antiquated instrument controls

New running rigging including halyards and sheets as well as furler leads and lines

New lifelines on port and starboard sides of the vessel

I’m sure I’ve left out a few things. All of these changes fit into the category of repairs as the vessel suffered from deferred maintenance. They were necessary as critical components were either broken or nearly so. Some of the issues were so severe that we may have lost the forestay or even the entire rig under sail or in rough seas.

Here are a few photos…..

Lastly, we will plan to fine tune the rig underway in the need future.

Stay tuned for more…..sails, electronics, and other replacements and repairs.
