Sailors Knots: Coils

Coils exist in many shapes and forms. Here are a few handy ones useful for securing and stowing spare lines, the ends of halyards, etc. The loops of most coils are made clockwise.

The most commonly employed coil on a sailboat. In the video I wrapped the coil downwards. That’s one way. Wrapping it upwards is more common and probably the way I do it 50% of the time. I use this approach when I wish for a bitter end to lash the coil to some other object such as a mast cleat.
An excellent way to prep a coil to hang on a hook or some other object.
